TD Wins TEXO Awards for THR Justin Tower and DFW Airport High C Gates

DALLAS - (March 15, 2023) – TDIndustries is proud to announce that it has won first place in two categories during the 2023 TEXO Distinguished Building Awards. The awards recognized TDIndustries’ mechanical construction work on the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport High C Gates Demolition and Rebuild Project and Texas Health Resources Jane and John Justin Surgical Tower in Fort Worth, Texas. TEXO Distinguished Building Award winners will be recognized and presented with their awards at the TEXO Distinguished Building Awards Recognition Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023. 

TEXO combines the two largest national construction associations, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) to unify, advocate and advance the construction industry in North and East Texas. These awards are among the most prestigious awards in the nation for construction. They embody the skill, commitment and passion of TEXO members.

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport High C Gates Demolition and Rebuild is the first-place winner in the Specialty Contractor – Mechanical 1 ($0 - $5M) category. This unique project incorporates cutting-edge modular prefabrication techniques. This revolutionary engineering and construction project, likely the first of its kind at an airport in the United States, involved the prefabrication of six modular units built off-site and transported over a mile across an airfield overnight to their location. Structures were moved while the existing gates were still in use by American Airlines. TD was contracted to do the core shell, mechanical and plumbing above grade for the project as the mechanical subcontractor for Archer Western, H.J. Russell, and Phillips May (general contractors) to successfully deliver the project in an accelerated timeframe.

Texas Health Resources Jane and John Justin Surgical Tower is the first-place winner for the Specialty Contractor – Mechanical 3 (over $10M) category. The Jane and John Justin Surgical Tower was the largest construction project in the history of Texas Health Resources, a premier Texas hospital system. TD overcame weather and pandemic-related challenges to complete the project on schedule. The newly constructed 10-story, 440,000 square-foot surgical tower includes 114 patient beds with a capacity of 216, private consultation rooms, teaching spaces for training residents, surgical suites with 15 operating rooms, 32 PACUs and 24 pre-operative service areas. The general contractor on the project was Balfour Beatty. TDIndustries was commissioned to do all mechanical work and installation for the project and a renovation scope of work to add a new satellite pharmacy area in the existing Richardson Tower. The keys to success on this project included effective use of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)/Building Information Modeling (BIM), off-site prefabrication, meticulous planning and scheduling and execution on the timeline.

In addition, these state-of-the-art buildings involved new and emerging technologies and techniques. To adapt to pandemic conditions, the Justin Surgical Tower plans and HVAC system were adjusted to allow for additional isolation wards and a quarantine-ready ventilation system. The DFW High C Gates were the first modular project of this type and scale. Off-site prefabrication and simultaneous work resulted in significant time and cost savings for the project.
