DALLAS (March 29, 2023) — TDIndustries announced today that it earned two national safety awards, a National Safety Merit Award, in the Specialty Trade Contractor category, from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and a third-place Construction Safety Excellence Award, in the Construction Management Division of Over 4 Million Work Hours, from Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Both ABC and AGC announce 2022 safety awards in early 2023.
“TDIndustries’ core values begin with fiercely protecting the safety of all its employee-owners,” said CEO and Board Director Harold MacDowell. “TD is an industry leader regarding safety because our team prides itself on creating and maintaining a safe place where everyone can work without fear of injury. This requires constant vigilance. Our safety systems and culture are held to the same high standards for excellence and innovation as our operations.”
TDIndustries was presented with the National Safety Merit Award by ABC at the 33rd annual Excellence in Construction® Awards during ABC Convention 2023 in Orlando, Florida, on March 16. The 2022 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum or Gold status in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System in 2022, reflective of their 2021 safety performance data. The award was presented to 49 contractors nationwide. During the selection process, contractors were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations and interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Health and Safety Committee.
“World-class safety and total human health are essential pillars of the culture of ABC member companies, and those priorities are exemplified by winning contractors,” said 2023 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Milton Graugnard, executive vice president, Cajun Industries LLC, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. “TDIndustries prioritizes taking care of its employees, their greatest asset. Among the National Safety Excellence Award winners are several ABC Top Performers, leading contractor members ranked by work hours, demonstrating the positive impact of implementing strong safety programs.”
The National Safety Excellence Awards are presented in three major North American Industry Classification System code categories: NAICS 236—Construction of Buildings; NAICS 237—Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction; and NAICS 238—Specialty Trade Contractors. The STEP Safety Management System, a standard for developing world-class safety management systems in construction, is designed to help both large and small contractors evaluate every aspect of their corporate safety and health programs and identify opportunities for improvement.

TDIndustries was also recognized for having one of the nation’s top construction safety and health programs in 2022 by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). AGC, which oversees the prestigious AGC-WTW Construction Safety Excellence Awards, an annual ranking of construction safety and health programs, noted that 48 companies, in total, were selected as winners for their commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control.
“AGC invests so much time and energy in organizing what is a very rigorous awards program because this is a vehicle for elevating the safety and health of the industry,” said Dan Fordice, AGC’s president and vice-president of Fordice Construction Co. in Vicksburg, Mississippi. “By finding and highlighting some of the very best industry safety and health programs, we seek to elevate safety and health within the entire industry.”
Fordice noted that there are multiple winners in the Construction Safety Excellence Awards because the awards are distributed for several divisions and categories, based on the amount and type of work performed. He added that the AGC-WTW Construction Safety Excellence Award winners are selected by a panel of five independent safety and health professionals within the construction industry. “The winning firms developed and implemented exceptional safety and risk control programs through continuous improvement and maintenance of their safety and health management systems,” said Fordice. Final judging for the awards program took place during AGC’s annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“WTW is proud to be a partner in safety with AGC by sponsoring the Construction Safety Excellence Awards. For over 30 years, this partnership has supported the construction industry by recognizing construction companies that go above and beyond minimum safety and risk control standards. These contractors are leaders in the construction community,” said Mike Fredebeil, CSP, Senior VP and Executive Director of Construction Safety and Risk Control, Willis Towers Watson. “Our vision for 2023 and beyond is ZERO HARM. Accordingly, all TD employee-owners have made a commitment to performing work that results in zero serious injuries and fatalities,” says Jamie Dabbs, vice president, Safety, Health and Environmental at TDIndustries. “TD’s utmost priority is ensuring that every employee-owner goes home in the same condition as they arrived to work that day. We never compromise regarding safety and have seen continuous measurable improvement in safety objectives, culture and results.”
